The BIGGEST OS MTG Party of the Summer!

Editor’s note, this post is brought to you by Eric, the event organizer, known for his previous arcade+mtg tournament, the SLAMMVITATIONAL.

Hey y’all – it’s time to announce another OS gathering here in Toronto.

This time, its the SUMMERSLAMM taking place on August 27th from 12 – 7 EST at the TECUMSEH AUDITORIUM at the Toronto Metropolitan University student center.

It’s been some time since the last Toronto OS event in November of 2021, so I figured it was time again to prepare another celebration of The Gathering for the community.

Here are the quick notes for the tournament:

  • 5 or 6 Round straight Swiss format – depends on registration numbers
  • Round 1 starts at 12:30 EST sharp – rounds are 50 mins
  • Recommend you have lunch beforehand – No scheduled break – pizza will be provided for food between rounds; lots of places to eat in the area
  • A community card will be provided for you upon registration; I recommend you ask your opponents and friends to sign your card
  • Registration is $30 to cover the cost of the venue + food order
  • SUMMERSLAMM playmats are available for $25 + SUMMERSLAMM shirts will be available for $25 at the venue
  • BOREAL OS rules apply; unlimited proxies are PERMITTED
  • At the end of the round, if both players are tied in games, tie breakers will be decided by CHAOS ORB flips
    • After 50 minutes if there was a tied match, the tie breaker will be a sudden death Chaos Orb flipping contest, similar to a hockey or soccer overtime shootout. If both players make or miss the Chaos Orb flip in the same round, repeat the process.

Is [this] a good enough proxy card?

  • Proxy Rule: Do your best to ensure your opponent is aware of what your proxy card represents; there are some fantastic playtest cards available here: https://geocitiesofbrass.com/old-school-playtest-card-resources/
  • If you must sharpie up a basic land to represent a playtest card, please ensure that you are clear to your opponent what that card represents. The goal is to ensure that both players have an easy-to-understand board state.

Prizes and Raffles:

  • Open to donations for prizes! Keep an eye on this space for updates.
